Can anyone help? Something seems wrong here.

Ah, the wait is finally over. The Elder Scrolls 6(opens in new tab), here at last, and a full six months before Starfield to begin with. All my favorites are here: The Master Chief John 117, an immortal golem of destruction powered by The Duke (opens in new tab), Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum. English post-punk legend and Sisters of Mercy frontman Andrew Eldritch for a reason. It is possible that I was wrong about Elder Scrolls 6.

Courtesy of Nexus modder stupidcatgirl (opens in new tab), The Elder Scrolls 6 presents a bold take on the long-awaited open-world RPG that's basically just Morrowind, but really messy and whatnot. Stupidcatgirl's previous work includes Morrowind 2(opens in new tab), the beloved sequel to Morrowind, as well as Morrowind 666(opens in new tab), which appears to be Morrowind in Hell, and you can see elements of those projects in The Elder scrolls 6.

I uninstalled the mod that removes Vvardenfell completely (opens in a new tab) and reloaded it into the OpenMW source port with my Breton mage and his fancy Colovian leather helm. Upon first leaving the Balmora Mages Guild, I found myself trapped in a world geometry. Okay, no partying on my part. I reloaded and headed out the top door this time, exiting into the new Xbox-themed Dwemora utopia.

Microsoft stormtroopers patrol the streets, neon signs advertise Xbox and Game Pass, and a giant black and green Numidium with a massive Duke replacing the Heart of Lorkhan rises from the center of town. Honestly, Sony should use this as a showcase in its ongoing showdown with Microsoft in the EU over the ActiBlizz deal; Anyway, that seems to be the level of corporate talk (opens in a new tab) we've settled for.

One thing I would really like to highlight is the consecration of the great classic RPGs here. There's a huge billboard for Black Isle Studios in Dwemora, and amidst the utter cacophony of the mod's custom soundtrack, I spotted sound effects from Planescape's journal update: Torment and Vampire colon The Masquerade em dash Bloodlines (se opens in a new tab). Cue Leo Decaprio pointing at the screen, I'm easy to please.

I took Oblivion Gate into everyone's favorite metaphysical realm of eternal torment and discovered what felt like some kind of horrific version of Planescape: Torment Area? Highlights include an immortal Caius Cosades, a chadized meme jock in full Daedric armor, a "Hall of Sinners" filled with nude NPCs repeating what appear to be actual negative user reviews for Morrowind, and a library of Hermaeus Mora with books rummaging around have fun with characters ranging from Elder Scrolls YouTuber Micky D(opens in new tab) to Deadwood showrunner David Milch.

I really loved the portrayal of Sheogorath as a "lol random" character from the early years, but he was subsequently killed off by his no-nonsense alter ego, Jyggalag, here represented as a giant man in modified Sauron armor.

At this point, I was knocked back to the Balmora Mages Guild, so I activated the cheats and just went to work. I had to painstakingly empty my inventory after accidentally pressing "take all" on thousands of pounds of real-world firearms and rooting on the spot with a hindrance. Dwemora and Oblivion were the highlights for me, though I did appreciate the nuanced and culturally sensitive portrayal of stupid cat-girl England, complete with the aforementioned Eldritch and a place called "Greggs" that they apparently really like there.

Honestly, there isn't enough space or time to document all the bullshit posts here and that's a beautiful thing to me. I don't know if I've put that much effort into anything in my life, let alone committed to something so hard. Morrowind modding is truly a weird and wonderful rabbit hole filled with everything from genuine attempts at content expansion and revitalization (Opens in a new tab) to, well, McDonalds (Opens in a new tab). It may not be the real Elder Scrolls 6, but I doubt The Elder Scrolls 6 has anything close to the bewildering, inscrutable, weird art appeal of The Elder Scrolls 6.
